Awards for Excellence   The home enjoys a reputation as a quality provided both nationally and regionally with a significant number of recent awards being achieved. In March we were voted Best Social Care Apprentice Employer in Britain at the National Care Accolades. Skills for Care CEO Sharon Allen recorded that “Hendra House thoroughly deserved their award as their innovative approach to person centred care through an impressive Apprenticeship programme beating off fierce competition from the finalists in their category” “Everyone at the ceremony was impressed by their absolute commitment to person centred care and thinking differently about service delivery that has completely transformed the lives of the people they work with”. For the second year running the home was nationally recognised as being one of the “Top 100 Employers” in the country by the National Apprentice Service and City & Guilds of London Institute, beating over 93,000 other employers for this prestigious accolade, and was the only company from the Social Care Sector to be included in this selective list. We were also voted Best Medium Sized Employer in the West Midlands at the 2012 National Apprentice Awards, and then competed against the 12 regional finalists, as a result we were selected as one of the Top Three Medium Sized Employers in the country, this being a considerable achievement when you consider we were competing against organisations with up to 250 employees. For the third time in four years (2009, 2011 and 2012) the home was voted “Care Business of the Year” at the Shropshire Care Awards, Hendra House is the only organisation to have won this prestigious award on three occasions. The During our Infection Control Inspection held in December 2012 the home became the first and only home in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin to be awarded the coveted Platinum Award for Infection Control with a 100% attainment. CClick to see Infection Control Inspection Results The Inspector reported that: “It was a pleasure to visit the home and see how standards of infection prevention and control have risen further since my first visit to the home in 2009. The improvements to the home are outstanding and I know that the home is held by district nurses to have the best facilities! The treatment room has to be said to be of an exceptionally high standard, it is clean, tidy, well organised with good storage facilities. The newest development seen was the cleaner’s cupboard which again is of the highest standard, clean, tidy and has excellent fixtures and fittings. I have also commented that the cleaner’s trolley is by far the cleanest, organised trolley I have ever seen. The staff made me welcome and showed me around the home with pride, everyone at Hendra House should be commended for the standard of infection prevention and control seen and the outstanding award you have achieved”. Other significant national awards include being runners up in the 2010 National Skills Accolades held at the Dorchester Hotel London. The visiting judges who visited the home stated that: “Everyone at Team Hendra is involved in everything that is going on. The standard of care reflects the massive investment that the owner has made in recruiting the right staff and training and developing them to fulfil their potential. This positive attitude and value based approach is evident as soon as you enter the front door. Relatives feel that their loved ones receive excellent care and that all their needs are met in a very caring manner by staff who show respect, and allow individuals choice and dignity” Our staff regularly showcase their talents by competing in national competitions against the best carers in the country.
